Fishing Notes |

Ben Verhoef, the president of the University of Missouri Bass Club, reported catching two five pounders. The shallow bite was on today! We had a monsoon of rain the night before that raised the lake to 660.9 which is flood level. Usually when we get a lot of rain this time of year they pull current and the fish stack up on the deep humps and ledges, but this major flood made the water muddy causing a lot of the baitfish and the bass to move shallow into the flooded bushes and debris. The big fish that I caught were in the backs of larger creeks where the runoff water was rushing into the lake. All of these creeks were flooded so I was able to push pole a long way up these creeks. There was a large matt of debris in the back of every creek and in the very back of that debris matt is where the big fish would be sitting. Big fish were caught on a black neon Double Wide Sweet Beaver. I also caught a ton of small keepers walking a black Spro Frog over the matts. I ended up with two 5’s a 4.6 and a ton of 2-3lbrs. I attached a pic of the 4.6, the matts, and some places the fish were caught. Hope we get another flood! |
