Fishing Notes

This past weekend was pretty slow for bass. Several patterns are working right now but very little consistency or quality. The fish are spread out for a couple reasons : water temps are not hot allowing the fish to go where ever they want. Water is around 79. Shad are plentiful in the backs of coves, middle of coves and on the main lake and the bass are following them all over the lake. The shad a still very small in average size and very easy prey. The fishing should pick up very soon, as we get into September our over night lows should drop off encouraging fish to start their early fall patterns. Early fall is a great time to fish. Lots of fish are predictable and eager to bite. Quality bass Will still be more difficult but numbers of average sized bass will be a lot of fun.

Both days we caught around a dozen bass primarily off docks with topwaters. 4 hour trips both days from 7-11am. A few keeper Spotted bass between to two days. One keeper largemouth, primarily small largemouth which I would assume were last years hatch. We must of had a very success full spawn last year because of all the little 10 inch bass running around. Next year those bass will at least be more fun to reel in. 2 years and we will be catching a good number of keeper bass. Wind has been very light and out of the east which has not helped.
