Another tough day fishing. While I was only on the water for 2.5 hours from 3:30 – 6:00 PM, I could not figure out a pattern, in spite of what are great conditions, overcast and good wind. Bait fish in the coves I fished today did not seem to be present in all coves and did not seem to be all the way at the backs of coves. Rather the bait fish were mid way back and in the center of the coves, not on banks or shallow. I did see in a couple of coves the big gizzard shad about 25-50 yards inside of coves over about 12-15′ of water. The fish did not seem to want to chase today as I threw crank baits, swim baits and buzz baits in consideration of the good wind. My short fish today all came on secondary points on the jig and worm worked slow along the bottom. Although I was seeing schools of bait fish, there was very little busting of the shad on the surface. Corners of docks with wind did not produce for me today. Tough October fishing. If you have any suggestions or have a fishing report for today, please email me at bob@bassingbob.com or post on Bassing Bob Forums. Back on the Osage tomorrow and likely the Niangua on Thursday. |
