Fishing Notes

These fish just won’t open up there mouths and bite. The fish are sitting deep off the banks near channel swings and in brush piles from 12′-25′. Considering the light wind and sun today, I slowed down and fished with a 1/2 oz jig and Crock-o-Gator Swamp Bug (Swamp Bug was a suggestion from Terry Blankenship, who I saw on the water today). However, again no bites. I was only on the water for a couple of hours today. I still feel confident that the fish will bite one of these baits on the bottom. While the A-Rig has caught most of the tournament fish lately, I am tired of throwing it and I can feel the bottom and bites better with a jig or creature bait (well, I used to be able to feel bites). Today Ameren has started heavy generation and plan to lower the lake by two feet this week. That will certainly move and reposition the fish and bait fish, which will help the bite. There should be a much better bite by this weekend. I will be off the water today as I had a prop blade break yesterday, I probably fractured it when cutting through ice last weekend to open up PB2 ramp for BB tourney. So, if you are on the water today, shoot me a fishing report at bob@bassingbob.com, take pics too and I will post.
