Fishing Notes

Today I pre-fished for the AiA tournament this weekend to determine if the lake area from the tool bridge to the 21MM had potential. While I found plenty of bass and shad toward the back areas of the coves, I just could not get them to bite, AGAIN. My game plan today was to get to the very backs of these coves where the shallow water deepens to 12-20 feet of water on the secondary points and banks leading back to the shallower water. The water temps for the most part are 1-2 degrees warmer toward the backs of the coves than the tops of coves and main lake points. The fish that I could see grouped in my graph were for the most part suspended over transitions ditches, on the top of deeper brush piles (12′-25′) or on the bottom. There was no real pattern to the fish I caught, as some were right on the bank and the others were around brush. While I found a few spots that are holding a good number of fish in this stretch, I am not confident enough that this part of the lake will produce a winning sack for me at least. The fish are there, I just cannot get them to bite. Today I through many jerk bait colors, the COG jig, the COG Swamp Bug, an A-Rig and Wiggle Wart. Tomorrow I will seek warmer waters, I hope to find 46+ water temps.
