Fishing Notes

Today I was searching for bedding bass in preparation for a tournament this coming Sunday. However, due to the water rising , overcast skies and wind chopped water it was very difficult to see whether fish were on the beds I was seeing or not. So, I worked the areas around the spawning areas with a jig, lizard and Carolina Rig brush hog, without much success. I only truly about 50% of the time while the other time was just trolling and trying to find bedding bass. The sun did pop out briefly late in the afternoon, I was able to find a bedding bass, looked to be about 3 pounds, so I worked that bass with a jig for about 20 minutes and finally caught it. It seemed to be a bit less than three pounds however. It was interesting that the female was close to the laydown with the bed and she would come out of no where to chase the bait, but not commit to biting. I spend most of the day in 6 mile cove (directly across from the mouth of the Gravois, there are a lot of beds in the pockets down the right arm of the cove. I then fished an area around condo docks at about the 14mm, I saw lots of beds but again hard to see the fish due to the conditions. My best bite while just fishing these areas was on the jig in about 4-6′ of water on slightly steep rocky banks around the spawning pockets.
