Fishing Notes |
---|
This evening my son Rob and his fishing partner, Ben Verhoef (BB Professional Advisor and Mizoou Fishing Club president), won the Thursday Night Bass Busters tournament, a 3 keeper limit format. Rob and Ben started out a PB2 at 6:30 and first checked out the back of a big creek to see if any big ones have gone back due to the rising water and running water coming in from the creek, no bites. So they then made a run to the 6mm to execute their original strategy which was to fish main lake points with the hope to take advantage of strong current being created by the dam running heavy generation. They felt they could have better success getting closer to the current generation source, although knowing the risk of a long run in a short 3.5 hour tournament. The risk paid off as they caught 6 keepers culled once and by the end of the night were throwing back 3 pounders. Ben said “the Crock-o-Gator Shaker Head n worm just catches em on LOZ on the points”. The risk almost did not pay off for Rob and Ben, as at 9:330, 30 minutes before weigh in, their trolling motor got jammed and would not pull up. They finally got it up and made the run back to PB2, running at the night limit of 30MPH and made it back with about 2 minutes to spare. Great Job Ben and Rob!!! For me, I am a proud dad to see my son win his first ever bass tournament. |
