Fishing Notes |

This afternoon, I idled around in some coves between the 14mm – 17mm to mark brush piles, knowing that Rob and I would be fishing main lake points in that stretch for the Thursday night tournament. I found and marked about 10 good brush piles that were in 12-25′ of water. However, as it worked out, we did not catch a single fish off those brush piles that I had marked. The tournament was from 6:30PM – 10:00PM, we did not get a first keeper bite until just before 8:00PM, a nice 3 pounder on a main lake point, we caught a few shorts off the same point. As it started to get a bit darker we moved to brush piles around docks. Robbie and a hawg hooked and then went right down into the middle of the brush and we could not get him out and finally it came un-done. I then caught a 3.5 pounder in a brush pile in about 15′ of water in between two docks. We needed one more good one, as the Thursday night tournament is a 3 fish limit tourney. About 9:15 we moved to some condo docks with no luck and then to a deep structure point in the Glaize where we both caught two short fish and were out of time. We ended up with 6.59 pounds, enough for second place as the other anglers struggled tonight to get big bites. The winning weight was just over 9 pounds. This Thursday night tournament is a lot of fun, just hoping for 3 keepers. Greg the organizer does not want the tourney to get to big and like Big Bass Bass, discourages pro’s, guides and some of the local experts to fish. Therefore it is an ideal tournament for average anglers like me and Rob. I would encourage you all to check it out and fish it when you are at the lake. |
