Fishing Notes

Today was a preparation day for fishing the Joe Bass tournament tomorrow. I will be fishing the tournament with the “The Great Wayne”, Wayne Fitzpatrick. This past Sunday, Wayne and I fished together in preparation for the tournament, fishing shallow docks in the backs of coves and had several big fish including a 7 pounder off of docks in the back of a cove at the 10mm of the Osage. However, we did not get bit in every cove that we practiced, it seemed that bait fish being around in the backs of the coves was the key to the bite. So today, I took to the water at 6:00AM with two objectives; 1) Find bait fish in the backs of big coves and 2) sink some small brush close to some of the shallow docks. While I fished for about 20 minutes only, I stuck a 3+ pounder, which after sending that picture to Wayne, he suggested that I shake off those fish so they might still bite on Saturday. I shook off many fish in the backs of coves today, probably at least a dozen or so. I put out about 5 small brush piles in the fronts of some docks, anticipating that Wayne would be the first flip under the docks and I would would flip into the brush piles just off the docks. I found bait fish in the backs of several coves, all of the Buck Creek coves, 6 mile cove, hightower cove (across from Hawaiian Island cove, Chimney cove at the 12mm. I did not see the bait fish in the back of a few of the coves that I checked, Lick Branch and Hawaiian Island cove. So, after a few hours I felt that we had some good choices for the tournament on Saturday.
