Fishing Notes

Today the tournament take off was delayed about 20 minutes due to heavy rain and lightning. We took off about 6:30 and headed to a big cove at the 2mm of the Osage, we delayed our fishing for about 30 minutes due to more heavy rain and lightning. We got our first keeper about 7:15, a nice four pounder caught behind a dock off a concrete support. Our second keeper, another 4 pounder was also caught off a concrete support. By 9:00 AM we had three solid keepers all coming from shallow docks. Then the rain quit and so did the bite. About 10:30 we moved to a big cove at the 6mm, still fishing shallow docks. We caught 2 more keepers, both small keepers which we knew we need to cull to have a chance to win. The bite was very slow for a few hours. With about 2 hours left we headed to the back of the big cove at the 10mm that Wayne and I had good bites last Sunday. After working a stretch of docks, Wayne landed a solid 4.5 pounder off the very last dock in the cove. With about 20 minutes left to fish and a rough ride ahead of us, we worked one last stretch of docks with no bites. So, we had 4 good ones and one small keeper headed to the weigh -in. We finished with 17.60 pounds, good enough for 4th place. The winning bag was just over 20 pounds, 2nd place 19 and 3rd place 18 pounds. We needed just one more big one and we would have cashed a check. It was a fun day and another great tournament learning experience for me fishing with the great Wayne Fitzpatrick.
