Fishing Notes

Today I started fishing about 1:00, fishing Miller Hollow at the 20mm of the Osage, the cove with Shorty Pants. The conditions seemed right for a good stick bait bite today with the sun and slight chop, this was similar to a good day that I had a few days ago around Tan Tara. However, after 3 hours of working this cove, points, channel banks, channel swings and docks, I only had one bite a 14″ Kentucky/Spot keeper. The last hour, ran back to the creek channel bank in the Glaize that over the past couple of weeks has had a lot of bait fish. The water was calmer on this bank, so I was able to work the Dirks finesse jig, which has been my most confident bait the past couple of weeks. Although the ice was building on my rod guides, I was able to work the bait slow enough, really really slow, so I could was the ice by dipping my rod in the water in between moving my bait. In the first 5 minutes on this bank I caught a 5.10 pounder on the jig and caught 4 more bass on this bank in the last 40 minutes on the water. Bait fish seem to be the key to a consistent bite.
