Fishing Notes

Today my son Rob and I fished the BWSTA tournament. There was about 40 boats. We ran to the lower end to fish the clearer water that is slightly warmer than other parts of the lake. The first stop was a small cut close to the main lake in a big cove, we were Rob caught a couple of shorts there, ran to a creek channel bank toward the back of a cove and Rob caught 3 keepers in about 20 minutes on the stick bait. We ran to another back end of a cove and I caught a keeper, then moved to similar banks in coves and continued to catch fish. We had a limit of bass by 11:00, so it was time to upgrade. I started to throw the A-Rig and Rob stayed with the stick bait all day. I caught a few keepers on the A-Rig, the best being right at 4 pounds off the top of a brush pile. We ended the day with Rob catching 6 keepers on the stick bait, I had one keeper on the stick bait and 3 on the A-Rig. We finished the tournament with 14.73 pounds, just one place out of getting a check. The winning weight was 18.73 pounds and big bass was a 7.28 caught by Jamie Enyard, the winner of last years Big Bass Bash and Bassing Bob member. Rob and I had a fun day catching a lot of fish and 10 keepers.
