Fishing Notes

Today Ben and I fished the Bassing Bob Tournament with high hopes coming off a big win last week in the Joe Bass tournament. The day couldn’t have started any better! we got to our first spot about 8:20am. This is a bank that is almost all the way back in a cove that has had plenty of shad and bass on it the past 2 weeks. We were able to catch 2 Three pounders in a matter of minutes. After soaking this spot for 30 minutes are so we left to hit our other good spots. Ben and i ran around for about 2 hours catching small bass and big crappie on the stick bait. We finally got to another spot that’s back in a cove with plenty of shad around and caught 2 more smaller keepers. The key today was haveing our baits weighted enough to get down deeper. The sun was so warm and bright these fish seemed to go down to the bottom. It would have been a great afternoon to throw the jig on the bottom, but we stuck to the stick bait. We had 4 keepers by 11:30 and were feeling good about getting 5. As the days warmed up the bite got super tough. we only caught 4 bass in 3 hours all of them being short. So we went into the weigh ins pretty bummed out. We didnt weigh em but we had about 10-11 lbs.
