Fishing Notes

Today I got on the water about 11:30 and headed to the toll bridge. It was an absolutely beautiful day. The first bank I fished seemed to have a lot of bait fish however, no immediate bites as I soaked the stick bait over brush and near the bait fish. As I moved down the bank toward the back of the creek area, the water just kept warming up to 44 degrees. I caught the first bass, a short on with my boat in 6′ of water on a stick bait. As I moved out of the back area of the creek, I noticed several dying shad, so I dragged the Chompers Twin Tail Grub, rigged on Waynes Keeper Head (white available from Fitz Fishing and other colors from Crock-o-Gator Bait Company), I felt a slight tick on my line and bit of weight, when I set the hook I knew it was a quality fish, it kept making runs under my boat and finally I netted it. I did not put it on the scale, but I would guess it at about 3.5 – 4 pounds. The rest of the day, I caught two more, one keeper about 16″ and a short fish, they came from two secondary points that were very close to each other, I probably should have came back and hit those again, as I also caught two drum on the same banks. Overall I was satisfied with 2 keepers in 5 hours, as the bite has been very tough lately.
