Fishing Notes

Today Rob and my plan was to travel 4B, Bassing Bob Brush Boat to the north shore to sink brush piles and then leave 4B at a friends for a couple of weeks there so we can brush up some spots that we have identified. We started from the Glaze for the 19 mile journey to the dam at a whopping 20 MPH, by the time I got to the lodge, the old 45 horsepower motor poop out and was done for the day. Fortunately Rob was shadowing me in my Ranger. After we tried to get it started, changed batteries, etc, it would not get past a simple click. So we tied it off to the Ranger and towed it to Formula Boats, where the best mechanic on the lake, Dan Bowman was waiting for us. His initial assessment was that the motor froze up. Rob and I left in the Ranger to do some fishing, but as we were idling out of Formula’s cove, I noticed my motor shaking more than usual, I put it up on plane and it was still shaking, etc. So we turned around and went back to Formula Boats. Rob and I then went to Rob’s house jumped in his Charger boat and caught 3 small keepers. We noticed a lot of bait fish toward the backs of the coves/creek channels and that is where we caught all three keepers. I received a call from Dan Bowman, he indicated that both boat had blown power heads. Ouch. The Ranger motor is fortunately under warranty and I will purchase another motor for the brush boat. Knowing Dan and great work done on bass boats at Formula Boats, I am sure that I will back in business in a week.
