Jim Verhof, the father of my fishing partner Ben loves to Crappie fish from his dock this time of year. Due to the cold and ice Jim actually broke ice in his dock well to drop a jig down to his brush pile!. Jim says that on this day the bait had to be sitting still for a long period of time. The depths he was fishing was 30 foot deep. He was fishing a pink and white jig with a 1/32 oz jig head. Jim would just hold that bait still over the top of the brush piles. The key for him was SLOW,SLOW,SLOW!! barely twitching the jig from time to time. All in all it was a good day for Jim, catching 20 Crappie and keeping 10 to clean. |
