Fishing Notes

Today I got on the water about 11:00 and fished until about 3. My objective today was to run to the Gravois and lower end dam area of the lake to check water clarity and temperature for this weeks fishing report. I also was looking for bedding bass and fishing for them to see if they were locked on the beds and catchable. The water was pretty clear and with the sun shine today, I could see the fish really good and the beds. There are a lot, lot, lot of fish shallow, many of them are small, however they are on the banks. There are also a lot of beds, everywhere. The males have been quite busy this past week fanning rocks to make the beds. I saw several bass and a couple of giants, on the beds, however as soon as I flipped on the bed they ran off and for the most part did not come back, the big ones on the lower end are not quite locked on. I did see a 3 pounder that was pretty locked on, I fished at it for about 10 minutes without a strike, I left that fish to check out other areas, but I am confident that was a catchable fish. I saw 3 really big ones, 5+ pounders just kind of cruising near by the beds. I did catch some small keepers on the Carolina Rig Brush Hog, just working it around the spawning pockets in 3′ – 10′ of water.
