Fishing Notes

Another cold couple of hours fishing. The temps were in the high teens to low 20’s with slight wind and occasional the sun would pop out. So with the low wind and a bit of sun, it was actually pretty comfortable fishing with the exception of the ice build up on the rod guides but mostly the ice build up in the line guide hole on the reel and the line itself. I caught two fish, both shorts on the jig , fishing slack water around bottom cover (rocky bottom) inside of secondary point in a big cove/creek. The bites came in about 10′ of water. My graph was virtually blank the entire time, I could not find bait fish but did not plan to make any runs of cover a lot of water. I primarily set my boat down on a secondary point or channel swing bank and fished the stick bait and the jig. However, with the cold with ice on my rods/reels/line, it was very difficult to work the baits how I wanted too, especially the jig. Not seeing life on my graph probably had me working a bit too fast as well. However, if I am not seeing life on my graph, I am guessing they are on the bottom, so I really tried to work the jig as much as possible, but again, the ice on my gear made it difficult to feel bites and/or bottom which is key right now as the bite is very soft.
