79 -87 mm river area stretch / shallow / docks

Fished as a co-angler in the FLW tournament out of Drake Harbor and boater fished the 79-87 mm area. We started out fishing shallow just off the main river behind a couple of islands, I threw a Crock-o-Gator buzz bait and boater throwing a spinnerbait covering water around islands on out to a stretch on the main river after boat traffic had settled with no bites. We moved into some creeks fishing around docks and I started flipping in and around docks as much as I could while boater threw a small crankbait and he had a big one pull off of his crankbait in between some docks. We really did not have much going and not catching any fish at all really as my boater was more of a open water fisherman not used to all the docks so we stayed out casting to banks and I concentrated on dock corners with a 2.5 squarebill and a baby 1 minus mostly. Around noon we pulled into a creek and fished a bluff with lots of shad present and I finally boated a fish on the baby 1 minus on a dock corner (14-1/2 incher). As we moved down bluff it ran into a flat pocket full of wood with plenty of shad so picked up the buzz bait and threw into the thick area of wood laydowns and in short order caught a 14 Р15/16 inch bass, just short and then my only keeper of the day. We went around the other side of the dock and threw buzz bait around a caught a couple of shorts. Picked up the baby 1 minus and threw to the back corner of the dock sitting on corner of pocket and had a absolute giant swirl and miss my bait, this fish pushed some water and I sure would have liked to have seen that one! So all in all a very slow day but had fun pre-fishing with the Boss-BassingBob as we fished for a half-day on the river before fishing at Truman and found a spot near where Bob was wanting to fish where I lost a 3.5 lb. fish on a squarebill and I believe Bob caught the 5.11 in that area during the tournament but I will let him give the details in his report. Also my fishing partner I fish with (Rick Rouse) fished as co-angler as well and drew Andre Dickneite which won the event and Rick said he had an awesome time and they were flipping shallow docks with jigs that had shad and wind on them. Tight Lines everyone!
