Fishing Notes |
---|
Again today I had the great pleasure of fishing with Mr. Big Bass Bash and Anglers in Action, Randy Terrell, Founder of both. Two days ago Randy and I went fishing out of his boat and we caught a lot of fish and 4 small keepers in the back of creeks shallow flats on docks and around bait fish. Today was with my boat, we had less fish and only two keepers, but a nice one. I have been wanting to work main lake bluff ledges with big black rocks, bluff ends with big rocks and the first 3-4 docks just inside of main lake points. So we did that today. That bite can be really really good for big ones, but its a timing and conditions based pattern and will get really good any day now to catch big ones. Today there was not a lot of wind, pretty flat water and periods of more sunshine than I would prefer on that pattern. We caught a couple but no big ones with buzz bait and square bill. We then fished, what most anglers are fishing right now, shallow boat docks, boat docks in side pockets of creeks flipping under those docks. Not a good bite for us today. We then fished some secondary points with brush and the shallow flats toward the backs of big creeks with bait fish and caught two keepers out of brush piles and some short strikes on moving baits, chatter bait, spinner bait and square bill. Typical fall fishing. Pick a pattern and baits you like, adapted to conditions, sun and wind are key factors as is bait fish. Any of the area of the lake can produce big fish from main lake banks, main lake points, secondary points, shallow back of creeks docks, shallow backs of creeks open flats, brush piles any where on the lake, etc. There are a lot of easy bites to be had on front of dock corners (channel facing) shade and/or wind is best. Main lake docks and wave breaks, the biggest docks in coves, condo/marina docks and docks mid way to backs of creeks. Many baits on those patterns can produce big bites with all the staple fall baits. Top water, jigs, shaky head and Texas Rigged Worms, Creature Baits around docks and lay downs, swim baits, chatter and spinner baits, crank baits, Ned Rig, drop shot, etc. With the recent rain there is stained water every where, if you like stained water, there is plenty of it. River areas are heavy stained now, but quality bites in the river areas have been reported. Clearer water by the dam is good too. Dam area provides a good set of options for clear water and dirtier water. Based on my day today and if I were fishing a tournament, I would fish brush piles and docks 3/4 to all the way back of creeks. Mostly the same pattern lake wide in terms of baits.
