Fished the lower end. The boys I took out has a air b and b around there. Overcast, cold and dropping lake level. |
Fishing Notes |
---|
I picked up the guys and started off good with a 3 pounder pretty quick. Jerkbait fish in a pocket. That got us pumped up and I felt like we were going in the right direction. Unfortunately that was the last keeper we caught. We caught several short bass and a drum and a crappie. I was not fishing, just coaching the boys for the most part. I was telling them to slow down and they just were so excited. Constantly casting as far as they could from the back deck way up front because they were just so amped up. Water temp backed off a degree or so to 43 this morning. The teenage boys tried slowing down but they just haven’t been in these situations before and it can make for a challenging morning. They have excellent casting skills and enough fishing experience to do well but without being able to down shift I feel like a lot of kids are going to be in the same situation tomorrow. This lake is a deeper lake and working the lures appropriately is a big deal. Otherwise just throw a jig/bottom bait to help you slow down. We simply fished over them. The weather was something but not that bad. 41 degrees and raining. I stayed out late and caught a pile and a half of crappie though! They were chomping in the rain. Caught several with the bobber, several with the straight jig, and a few chasing a shad ball. No pictures of the crappie but every crappie caught was a keeper. All backs too. Fun afternoon! Even though the weather and rain was wearing on me. |
