Fishing Notes

Reviewing current and previous daily fishing reports on this site, decided to concentrate on secondary points and work towards the back of coves. Arrived at my spot near the Fort Leonard Wood Rec. Area around 6:30 am and immediately tried to establish a bite with the Dirks jig I have read so much about. I have had moderate success in the past with a green pumpkin pigsticker snowden jig, but decided to stick with Dirks. Not much luck in the first hour, but found a stretch of bank where I picked up 6 short fish. I got the jig stuck on a rock and headed towards the bank to retrieve it. Checked the line and made a parallel cast towards a downed tree branch. Two cranks of the reel and I felt the tap! After a great fight that took the fish under my boat, my boat partner netted the 7.22 lb toad. I continued to catch short fish the remainder of the day and picked up a second keeper later on. Needless to say, I have big bass going into day two and sit only one pound out of the lead of our 26 boat tournament. Great day of fishing and the membership fee for this site paid off with one cast. Thanks go out to Bob, Dirk and Fitzs bait and tackle! I have been fishing tournaments for 20 years and this was the largest fish I have ever weighed!
