Bluff and bluff end

Fishing Notes

I need to start this report by backing up a little. Not quite a month ago I went fishing with James Dill. I told James I wanted to learn how to fish his jigs on the bluffs and bluff ends. He picked me up at my dock, and the first place we stopped was less than a mile from my house, and we started catching fish. Now here is the good part. The first 3 spots we fished I had already fished several times, and never really caught any thing! I didn’t tell James this at first, I just wanted to see how he went about fishing them. Long story short, I had been going about it all wrong, and I got a got and education that day. I think we stopped about a dozen spots, some were better than others, but at the end of the day I felt like I had a pretty good idea how to fish the rest of the summer. It’s one thing to take a guide trip to just catch fish, it entirely another thing to go and “learn” how to catch fish.

All that being said I have been using the same techniques James showed me ever since and it’s still working. Today I fished a section of bluff around MM 40 were the river channel runs right up next to the bluff. I stroked a 3/4 oz Crock – O – Gator jig with green pumpkin chigger craw down the side of the bluff and he hit it pretty shallow, I think he was in less than 10′ of water. This is the biggest fish I have caught on this lake so far. The other keeper was a small one that came off of a bluff end. I caught him on a DD 22 crank bait in Sexy Shad.
