Fishing Notes |

Perhaps was the overcast skies for a change, but the bite was on for me this day. Fished topwater all day, and had decent success by my amateur definition. Caught a nice 3.41 largemouth on a Yellow Magic bone colored topwater, and a very nice white bass on the same lure and near the same secondary point location on the lower sectin of the Gravois. Tried my Zara Spook for the first time, and within an hour had a huge blow-up along a sea wall. I fought this fish (a Largemouth) for about 90 seconds as it made several runs toward deeper water. Got the fish within 5 feet of the boat — just close enough to get a good look at her — and this 4-pounder (guess) somehow threw the lure with a huge jump and shake. Big disappointment, but I don’t think there’s anything I would do differently in the way I fought her. Following-up on the pattern I found the day before, I spent time Buzzbaiting the outer edges of isolated docks with a white lure. Managed 3 other small bass. My experience after spending several hours throwing Buzzbaits over the past two days has led me to believe that I need to add a trailer hook to this presentation (as is the recommendation I’ve read by many), since I missed at least half a dozen decent strikes throughout the day. Have that on my to-do list. |
