Fishing Notes |

I had a chance to get out there this afternoon to check on things before my guide trip tomorrow and was pleased to see how the fish were biting. Me and Bob fished a tournament this past weekend where we did well catching a handful of good bass and getting a nice check but I needed to research a pattern that would produce more bites. I also needed to locate some schools of crappie for my customers tomorrow. I started off trying to locate some big crappie near the windy points. I caught a handful just off the bank slow rolling a tiny swimbait. These were some slab crappie too. The weather was perfect (for the fish, Cold as heck for me) steady breeze and cloudy. Caught several more crappie on the corners of a few docks too. Most of my bites were 3-5 feet deep, so that’s pretty shallow for crappie. After gaining some good confidence in my crappie pattern and putting several crappie in the livewell I pulled out the bass rods for the last hour or so. I started of trying a new jerkbait color that worked just fine. Slow twitches and typical pauses of the standard retrieve in December. Several small bass plus a drum but nothing to get excited about until I tied into a real nice bass that fought really hard due to the fact that he had the jerkbait partially on the side of his face. Landed the nice fish and took the pic. Immediately picked up a small jig on a new rod I have been meaning to try and threw it out. The rod is a new carbon fiber rod from Garcia. Really impressed with it so far, caught several small bass with it pretty quickly. It is super sensitive and compared to some of the rods I own is down right cheap. Being able to fell a light jig bite during the winter is a huge benefit that everyone has to have down. Practice, practice, practice, and on a day like today it was a blast. They were biting! Can’t wait to get back out there. Looks like we have some pretty good weather coming up. December is actually a really nice to get out there and fish before the water really starts to get cold in mid January. Clouds and a light breeze this time of the year means you better get out there ASAP! See you on the water. Anyone want to see exactly what, where, how I am fishing these patterns give me a call to book a trip. My schedule is open this time of the year and I would love to take you out. www.LakeoftheOzarksFishingGuide.com |
