Location/Presentation/Structure

this report is a bit old but had been busy taking care of my 92 year old father. The grandkids had come in just after Christmas and had that warm day the last of December and thought a quick trip to the lake would be in order. I would usually use jigs and not stick my hands in a bucket of cold water over and over in the winter. But for an 8 year old when presentation is not too critical (just find the fish and the right depth) with minnows. I never pulled a rod out, just kept minnows on his hook, a light wire #10 long shank hook with a 1/4 oz. weight about 12″ above. Fish were about 8-10ft down on shaded edges of dock,  main cove on north shore 3mile mark.  Fish were not very aggressive, just kept light tension on the line, fish picked up minnows lightly.  We went to get lunch just after noon, he had 11 keepers at the time.  After lunch he wanted to see if he could get his limit.  Took less than an hour to get four more keepers, he had just two short fish. His grin says it all!
