April 7th Paddlefish Report

Report by MDC Fisheries Biologist - Trish Yasger Below is the latest snagging report. Water temperatures are continuing to warm up and flow is good even though they are cutting back releases from both Truman and Bagnell dams. The water is coming down on Truman and Osage River, yet still high. Snagging is picking up on Truman as the water goes down and snaggers continue to do good on Lake of the Ozarks - Osage and Niangua arms. With water temperatures mid to upper 50F at the surface and good flows. The fish are still scattered out and starting to move upstream. Most of the fish being harvested are 34-40 inches with a few 60+ lb, including couple 80lb fish. The fish are in excellent condition – nice and fat!! We are seeing a lot of sublegal fish, especially 30-32-inch fish caught. These fish are from the extremely large 2016 stocking. Please release these fish unharmed and as quickly as possible as these are the fish you will be harvesting over the next several years. Water temperatures are cold, flows are high use caution and wear your life jacket. Thanks to all of the snaggers who reported harvesting tagged paddlefish. Even though our 5-year paddlefish project is over, please continue to report all tagged paddlefish. While supplies last, we will send and “I Caught a Missouri Paddlefish” t-shirt or paddlefish hat to those reporting a tag. We are starting to see a lot of paddlefish carcasses at some of the accesses. Please dispose of your fish-cleaning waste responsibly when cleaning paddlefish. Help keep areas clean and inviting for everyone to enjoy. As always, thanks to those who have shared their snagging stories & pictures – keep them coming, I really enjoy hearing from you. Let me know if you have any questions. Good luck snagging and stay safe. Trish

Paddlefish Snagging Report 3-24-2021

Report by Trish Yasger, MDC Paddlefish Fisheries Biologist Attached is the latest snagging report. Water temperatures are starting to warm up and flow is high with releases from Truman and Bagnell dams. There is flooding on upper Truman. Snagging has been slow on Truman, upper Lake of the Ozarks and the Osage River. Snaggers continue to have better success on the lower Osage and Niangua arms of Lake of the Ozarks. With water temperatures near 50F at the surface and flow we are starting to see some of the large fish beginning to move up. Most of the fish being harvested are 34-40 inches with a few 50+ lb. The fish are in excellent condition – nice and fat!! We are seeing a lot of sublegal fish, especially 30-32-inch fish caught. These fish are from the extremely large 2016 stocking.
