Good week of Post Spawn Fishing. Next week should be great fishing at Lake of the Ozarks
This week, according to Jack Uxa of Jacks Guide Service, was a fun week to be a bass fisherman at Lake of the Ozarks. Some bass are still in the spawn phase, on beds and around spawning areas, especially in the Tan Tara area and upper lake area above the 56MM. Around the lake most fish are in a post spawn pattern, moving away from spawning areas and staging on points. Long points that extend a long way out from the banks, will be very productive over the next couple of weeks as the fish feed heavily after the spawn. When the dam is pulling water and thus causing a strong current, the fish will get on the long points to feed on food being pulled over the point with the current. This week, shallow baits that were successful included frog, buzz bait and soft stick bait, like the senco rigged either wacky style (no weight) or on a shaky head. Deeper water fish are being caught on points and bluffs with 3/4 – 1oz jigs and large shaky heads with a soft stick bait. During low light times of the morning and evening, there has been a good topwater bite on Zara Spook type baits, buzz bait and chug bugs.
