The Cold Weather Is Officially Here!

The good thing is the fish are biting better than they have all year, the bad thing is its hard to with stand the cold out there. With temps in the morning in the single digits and highs in the 20s, i have not been in a few days. I can image the water temp is now in the mid to low 40s. There has been ice forming in the backs of some coves in the morning. The crappie are still set up on there steep channel  banks in the coves, and on the main lake. I can figure with the surface temp of water cooling off drastically the fish have probably found comfort a little deeper, in the same spots they were in before the big cold. This is the time i like to start throwing the Lake Fork Shad bait in albino. Its a little bit bigger than the baby shad, and it has a knot on the tail which all of this makes the bait fall slower. I also with start flirting around with a 1/32ounce jig head just for a slower presentation with the fish being so lithargic from the cold. The white bass and hybrid were biting good before the cold,on wind blown points and banks on the ,main lake by the dam. With the a rig or underspin, seems like the overcast days were the best for both fish. I can bet that the crappie are really going to set up on jerk baits here now. Try your smaller, and mega bass 110 jerkbaits on the steeper banks in the coves, you might even catch a big bass doing this. Guys if you get out be very carful, where life jackets and bring plenty of clothes. I have fell in on water like this and it is very dangerous. Try and have someone with you. Good luck out there. Looks like Thursday and friday The 28th, and 29th are supposed to be 30 and 33 degrees. Thats a step up from single digits and the teens!!! Good luck, and happy holidays everyone.
