LOWA Kayak Fishing Derby At Lake Of The Ozarks
The FOURTH ANNUAL 2 Dam Days Paddle Marathon on the beautiful Lake of the Ozarks in Central Missouri will be held Sept 28 and 29, 2013. Don’t miss this challenging event. Comments from previous 2DamDays’ racers include, “..toughest race I was ever in…I’ll be back”. What will it be like this year? Will it be a calm, windless weekend with no big cruisers around to make horrendous wakes? I doubt it. So if you’re among the faint of heart, maybe you’d best stay at home. But if your heart jumps at the thought of a real challenge, plan to join in for the race between the dams. Come for the challenge, but don’t forget the BIG BUCKS! The 2DDUL (2DamDays Unlimited) has a purse of $13,800 in prize money if all divisions are filled and if the marathon record is broken. The best overall time (and this includes all race categories within “The Extreme 90”) will win $500! Beat the course record currently held by Mike Herbert and take home an additional $1000. If that record is not broken, $500 will be added each year to the record breaking purse.
But if paddling 90 miles in two days doesn’t turn you on, not to worry. LOWA’s 2DamDays Paddle Marathon includes a race to meet every taste. Available races include a 3.5 mile sprint, a 15.5 mile short race, adventure races of 31.5 and 34.5 miles, an Ultra race of 66 miles, and then, of course, the Extreme90 from Dam to Dam. See the above table to learn more about these races and click on the specific race in that table to learn all the details.
Note major changes in races and purse in 2013 versus prior years. The Extreme 90 (the Dam to Dam race) is now divided into two sections; boats over 18 feet in length and boats 18 feet and under. Payout has been increased from three places to five places and the tandem division is now unisex. However, a special women bonus of $150 per paddler will be paid to any women’s tandem team finishing the race and first among women tandem. The same $150 will be paid to the first finishing female of a mixed team.
If the only water you want to be in is your bathtub, then don’t worry, come join in on the fun anyway. Be part of the action by being a LOWA 2DD volunteer to work at the check-points or at the LOWA booth. Encourage the paddlers by cheering them on or cheering them home. Enjoy the festive atmosphere of the Clean Water Festival at Captain Ron’s and join in the fun on Sunday at the closing ceremony.
The safety of the paddlers is our main objective and Lake Area volunteers rose to the occasion in 2012 by volunteering themselves and their boats to assure the paddlers remained safe. We plan on providing even greater protection in 2013 and therefore need the Lake Area boaters to volunteer in even greater numbers.
The purpose of the 2DamDays Paddle Marathon is to provide support to LOWA, the citizen-based, non-profit organization dedicated to maintaining the water quality of the Lake of the Ozarks while helping the local economy by publicizing to the world the beauty and recreational aspects of the Lake.
