Nebraska BASS Nation Tournament 5-2-2017 – 5-4-2017

Today the Nebraska BASS Nation took off from PB2 at 6:30, considering this is a 3 day tournament most of the fisherman were pretty tight lipped about the bite. This tournament is an individual tournament with boaters and co-anglers. The boaters competing against the other boaters and the co-anglers competing against the other co-anglers. Bassnation is the BASS sanctioned Fishing Clubs organizations, thus this tournament is about the club anglers and teams from Nebraska. The top weights that I observed during the weigh -in were 18+ with some 17/16/15/14 pounds bags, the big bunch of anglers were in the 11-13 pound range, all in good shape for a 3 day tournament. Considering the water level has risen quickly over the last couple of days and a mud line running through the lake it was difficult for most anglers to practice and have confidence in a specific bite. The best bag of the tournament thus far is from a co-angler weighing in 19.30 pounds. There were many 5 pounders weighed in with the biggest a 6+. From what I could gather today, the bite is in the backs of coves and creeks with moderately stained water on the bottom with jigs, creature baits and shaky heads with some reporting a bite on the spinner bait, crank baits and top water. Most anglers reported a good morning bite with the fish turning off later in the morning and afternoon, yet some good ones were caught during that period but the bite was slow. The toll bridge to dam seemed to be the most consistent area to catch them however some anglers had success catching some big ones running toward Tan Tara/Hurricane Deck and above. Regardless of the area of lake and water color most fish came shallow/close to the bank.
