Wow, there were a lot of big fish and big bags caught today in the National Youth Teen Anglers -Pro-Team Association Tournament today on Lake of the Ozarks. The tournament today provides the opportunity for High School and Jr. High School teams to fish together with their boat captain, often a parent, coach or volunteer that helps the kids out. The winners today with 28.84 pounds, the biggest sack of 5 tournament fish in the past 3 years was Lake of the Ozarks Legend (coach/parent/volunteer) Mark Wiese, Jr., his son Cole Wiese and Cole’s HS partner Steven Lafata. Their bag was anchored by big fish of the tournament a 7.38 kicker. Most teams were tight lipped regarding their baits, patterns and areas of the lake today as they have their High School Only anglers fishing tomorrow, expected field of 350 boats. Most anglers that did talk today, caught their quality fish on moving baits, the spinner bait, wiggle wart/rock crawler, square bills and chatter baits. Most quality fish were caught close to the bank out to 10 feet of water. There were also some quality fish and big ones/big bags caught on the bottom on a football head jig and shaky head with small finesse baits. The entire lake was fishing good with 5, 6 and a couple of 7 pounders caught from dam to dam. The big bite seems to be near pea gravel pockets, back of coves with pea gravel (fish getting close to spawning areas) and quality fish caught on main lake big rock banks and big rock points. Full results will be posted on National Teen Anglers Facebook Page.
