Tournament Notes

Wow, what a day on Lake of the Ozarks.  67 boats of the hardiest anglers and many veteran anglers took off this morning out of Alhonna Resort, in frigid temps and mid 20’s wind chill conditions.   These guys are the models of anglers that go after it and it’s no surprise that they achieve success.  They geet out there in all conditions, compete, knowing that they have a chance to win.

Today, Dirk and Tim, took the big pay check with 17.89 pounds.  They caught their fish on the Dirks finesse jig (get those jigs at Fitz Fishing), no surprise.  As the water cools down, its hard to beat the Dirks Jig on LOZ or any lake in the country.  They caught their fish in the Shawnee Bend to Gravois area, targeting creek channel swings and steeper banks toward the backs of creeks.

Mark Wiese, Jr and Frank Sinn, finished second with a stellar bag of 16.97 pounds.  They also caught their big fish on jigs, primarily the Crock-o-Gator Wiese Jig, green pumpkin around the Hurricane Deck Bridge area, also fishing creek channel banks and secondary points.

Bill and Marcus, caught their third place stringer, fishing early with the spinner bait and when the sun came up, they caught em on the Chompers Davenport Special Brush Jig, working both the jig and spinner bait over brush piles from the Glaize to Shawnee Bend area.

Gary and Evan Schartzer caught their giant, big bass, 6.08 pounds on a mouse colored spinner bait.  They caught their 4th place bag, weighing 15.44 pounds from the Toll Bridge to the Dam fishing creek channel swings and big rock banks.

Most anglers reported catching most of their quality fish today on jigs on transition banks towards the backs of big creeks, spinner baits along side of docks with wind and main lake bluff end banks, the crank bait on big rock banks and some behind docks on the jig.

Overall the bite was pretty tough, however, the bite is getting better with many 15+ bags today, two 6 pounders and last check today, 9 places paid was over 14 pounds.  The bite is improving.
