Fishing Notes

Today Denise Dill and I fished the first day of the Big Bass Bash. The weather conditions were at times good but most of the time a bit miserable with rain, rain showers and strong winds. While that was a bit uncomfortable for the fisherman, the fish, for some fisherman the elements did not affect the bite. At this point the top weight of the tournament is 6.52 pounds, weighed in at Alahonna at the 8mm. There were 7 6 pound plus weighed in today. While those are great fish, there is plenty of room for a bigger fish to be caught on Sunday to win the big prizes. See Bassing Bob Articles for full results from today at http://www.bassingbob.com/news/2013/10/05/big-bass-bash-day-1-results/

Today Denise I fished with many baits, mostly a buzz bait, spook, crank bait, swim bait and jig. We had several bites on the black Crock-o-Gator Head Knocker buzz bait and KVD Sexy Dawg walking bait. However all but one of our fish were caught on a jig fished around shallow docks in the backs of coves working the bait on the bottom in dock wells and along side of docks in 2′-8′ of water.

We had three keepers, a 2.25, 3.6 and 4.49 pounders. The 4.49 pounder finished just out to the money during the 1:00pm – 3:00pm weigh in period. The 2.25 and 3.6 pounders were caught during the 11:00-100pm period but were not weighed in as it seems that a minimum of a 4 pounder will be necessary to finish in the money.
