Fishing Notes

Yesterday, Thursday I checked out the Glaze and Osage coves near the mouth of Glaze with no bites, the water temps were a bit warmer yesterday with a couple of days of warmth, I saw some 40 degree temps mostly toward the backs of pockets and creeks but no bites. Today I thought it was time to fish some new water so I ran to the 35mm and fished my way back toward the Hurricane Deck bridge, again targeting last steep channel banks to the last secondary points in creeks, this is usually where winter bass will stack up this time of the year but again today no bites. The water was stained, about 1 foot of visibility, so I fished the Megabass in French Pearl, Orange w Yellow and Ito Natural, fishing it with 10-20 second count down both on the bank and out to over 20′ of water with a very slow fall. I also fished the Dirks Jig, black and purple also Cold Water Killer color which is brown/orange/powder blue with COG Ring Craw cut to smaller size to match small bait and I fished the A Rig fishing it over brush, slow rolling on the bottom and 8′ down, I even tried the Rock Crawler slow rolling it on shallow rocky banks. These fish have a belly ache. My fishing partner for Sunday’s tournament Bob Renken fished the mid Niangua today, also with no bites, reporting 39-42 degree water temps but stained water. I am scratching my head to figure out some kind of bite or pattern. Of course there seems to always someone catching em, I talked to Vern Jaycox today, 83 year old BB Professional Advisor and he reported catching 6 keepers yesterday (Thursday) fishing the Ito Natural in the morning and Pro Blue II Megabass on the fronts and corners of docks with brush. No big ones, but 6 keepers is awfully good right now. Vern was fishing the lower end and reported catching them in the morning with stick bait dead sticked but a bit faster in the afternoon. I wish I had a better report for you all, but the bite for me is very tough. I will try to chase a bite tomorrow and hopefully have some fish pics and some sort of pattern.
