University Of Wisconsin, Platteville Takes The Lead In The 2015 Cabela’s School Of The Year Race: Mizzou Ranked 8th

AN ANTONIO, Texas – Only  a month into the 2014-15 school year, collegiate anglers are bringing out their A’ game in the 2015 Cabela’s School of the Year race with something to prove.  At this point in the season, seven events have been held that will count toward the most prestigious title in college fishing and currently all eyes are looking towards the new Cabela’s School of the Year leader, the University of Wisconsin, Platteville.

After competing in three out of the seven sanctioned events, the University of Wisconsin, Platteville has taken a marginal three point lead over the second place and neighboring school, the University of Wisconsin at Steven’s Point.  The UW Platteville team finished twenty sixth at the 2014 Carhartt College Series National Championship, second at FLW Central Invitational, and seventeenth at the Midwest Collegiate Shootout to give them the early lead this year.

“We’re a small club in a growth stage, so we’re trying to get to everytournament we can. We have a lot of guys that are determined to fish every tournament around,” stated Jacob Clisch, a senior at the University of Wisconsin at Platteville and the Vice President of the UW Platteville Bass Team. “I’m very surprised, but it feels great to be on top. There are a lot of tournaments left in the season, but to be ahead of some of the major teams in college fishing feels great.”

Collegiate powerhouse fishing teams such as the 2014 Cabela’s School of the Year race victors, the University of North Alabama, are currently sitting in ninth place and 2013 Cabela’s School of year ULM is sitting in fourth.

“It’s great to see several new schools become more active in the Cabela’s School of the Year Race and it’s also interesting to see how constantly the rankings have been changing. With so many tournaments throughout the season, it’s going to be any school’s game up to the last event,”  said Cody Levy, Cabela’s School of Year Coordinator and Assistant Director of Cabela’s Collegiate Bass Fishing Series.

Though it is early in what looks to be the busiest and most competitive season yet, schools are able to solidify a basis for their quest to win the 2015 Cabela’s School of the Year title in the beginning of the season.

With tournaments in newer areas to the college bass world such as Madison Chain O’ Lakes in Wisconsin and Clear Lake in California, northern and western schools may show a more authoritative stance within the top of the leaderboard.

The ACA Cabela’s School of the Year program was the first program of its kind to rank teams across all collegiate bass fishing circuits and provide the first national collegiate fishing rankings.  The program exemplifies the constant growth in collegiate bass fishing, with over 260 teams earning points in 2014.

The current Top Ten schools in the 2015 Cabela’s School of the Year race consist of the following:

 8. University of Missouri (Columbia, MO)
 9. University of North Alabama (Florence, AL)
 10. Eastern Illinois University (Charleston, IL)
